The Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance, along with the Poland Fire Department, was dispatched to a rollover MVA on State Route 8, north of Cold Brook, NY shortly before 7am April 10th. The three occupants of the vehicle had self extricated themselves from the vehicle and were checked for injuries before signing off. The fourth victim, who required treatment before being released, was found in a suitcase suffering from mild hypothermia. The roughly four foot long boa constrictor was treated with a hot pack after the secondary survey was negative except for the hypothermia due to the ambient temperature of 25 degrees. The snake was last seen curling next to the hot pack in the suitcase. The KVAC crew consisted of Jim Hiney-driver, Chief Jack Hasse EMT-P,and Heather Wright EMT-I.
